Good food at any time in Vendée restaurants

• Do you only have a few minutes left between finishing the chapter of your book and your sand-yachting lesson? If so, eat on the move at a snack bar with your feet in the water, at a foodtruck table or in one of the lively pedestrian areas.
• Hello hello – have your pre-dinner drinks session been extended! This is often the case during the wonderful summer evenings so check out the restaurants which offer service after 10pm
• Sunday morning 11am – too late for breakfast and too early for lunch – why not try brunch overlooking the sea?
• 4pm – holiday snack time and a reminder that afternoon snacks are for all ages. In some restaurants there is service all day.

Come and try some of the local specialities in the Vendée restaurants

When we come to the seaside, our mouths are already watering for the seafood and fish.

The restaurants in Pays de Saint Jean de Monts make the most of the secret recipes and techniques shared by the local inhabitants to prepare some of the local specialities. With this knowledge they are able to suggest around 40 recipes which are 100% vendéen:

  • Restaurant Le Robinson
    • The chef Vincent Potier cooks the maraichine recipe for pan-fried eels in parsley
  • Restaurant La Villa
    • The chef Patrick Rougeon suggests many recipes :
    • Cuttlefish ragout – Spring – summer
    • Marinated sardines – Spring – summer
  • Le Glajou
    • Unmissable house speciality: eels grilled on vine shoots
    • Thin eels in parsley
    • Frogs legs in parsley
    • Maraichin flan (dessert)
  • L’Espadon
    • Throughout the year, the chef Eddy Zefner offers a tasty and authentic recipe for ‘la gralaie mogettes’ (vendeen beans on toast!) having met a local maraichin who gave him the secret of how it is made. You can accompany your “gralaie” with salicorne (a type of local pickle) and a piece of duck from Challans.
  • La Langoust’in
    • Roasted lobster: all year
    • The secret recipe of how to cook and eat this dish was passed down by Andre and Monique – an old sea-fisherman and the daughter of a sea fisherman respectively.
  • Le Salon des Desserts
    • In February come and try the ‘foutimassons / troutisseaux / bottereaux’ (names can change depending on the area of the Vendée) – these are a type of Vendée doughnut made for Shrove Tuesday
