Description

This route takes in the commune of Le Perrier, along the marshes of the marais doux.

Slip a pair of binoculars into your bag and admire the marsh birds up close, in their natural habitat. Stop for a moment in front of the wet meadows where they live in peace and quiet…

This walk is best enjoyed in spring or autumn. Some sections may be impassable in winter.

Getting to the starting pointReport a problem

Step 1: La yole

The yawl is the traditional way of getting around the marshes. In this environment, which suffered from flooding in winter, market gardeners no longer travelled on land but on water, aboard this light, flat-bottomed craft guided by a ningle (pole).

To enjoy this unique experience at water’s edge, visit Déambul (July-August).

Step 2: La biodiversité du Marais Breton Vendéen

The Marais Breton Vendéen boasts unspoilt countryside. This area is a paradise for birds. The nearby Baie de Bourgneuf is home to 45,000 birds every winter. Come spring, the marsh becomes France's leading nesting site for several species, including the lapwing, black-tailed godwit and redshank.
