There is a generously built female bather in bronze sculpted by the Challandais sculptor Henry Murail who appears to watch over the beach. It is as if this beach reflects the warmth and kindness of its guardian. This sculpture is at the end of Avenue de la Mer which is the pedestrian shopping area for the Saint Jean de Monts seaside district. It’s here of course, that you come for your holiday treats which you can buy from one of the many shops just a few feet away from the beach.
La “Plage de la Baigneuse” in Saint Jean de Monts is a lively, bustling and cosmopolitan beach.
Practical information
- The beach is supervised by lifeguards from mid-June to mid-September.
- Dogs are allowed from 1st October to 30th April on a lead.
- Beach hut rental.
La Plage de la Baigneuse owes its name to Henry Murail’s sculpture, which sits like the mother of the waters on the esplanade de la Mer square.
You can take advantage of the benches around the Baigneuse and enjoy your chichis or ice cream bought on avenue de la Mer while admiring the break dancers performing.
This is where the bikers have improvised a small car park. With a view of the sea from the road, they can make a short stop on the sand before resuming their journey.
