About us
Biotopia, or the promise of a new way to discover nature, at Notre Dame de Monts.
The choice is yours: on foot, by bike or by car. The site is located at the gateway to the town centre and on the edge of the pine forest, at the crossroads of footpaths and cycle paths. It has also been awarded the “Accueil Vélo” label and is a base for trail and Nordic walking enthusiasts. Yes, at Biotopia, you’re bound to be a fan of outdoor activities, where the environment takes centre stage.
The building’s large bay window is reminiscent of a camera lens observing, zooming in on and photographing the natural world directly opposite. So, as soon as you arrive, the scene is set: you’re plunged into the world of the coast and the forest.
Now push open the doors of this unique site in the Vendée. It promises to sharpen your sensitivity to the environment. The exhibition has been designed in collaboration with scientists, to guarantee you quality content and to shed light on the mysteries of nature, all presented in a modern, fun, interactive and sensory museography, to make the information accessible to everyone, including the little ones. It all starts with an immersive video. Then, as your Biotopia adventure unfolds, you can manipulate, smell, listen and explore, taking a close look at plankton, searching for little treasures in the dune, diving into an interactive pond…
You can also extend the experience outside, beyond the 170m² of exhibition space. After all, there’s no better way to learn about nature than by walking through it.
The arboretum invites you to discover a variety of tree species. It’s laid out along a short route that’s accessible to pushchairs and people with reduced mobility or visual or hearing impairments.
An outdoor trail, available in French or English: “Nagomi and the hidden benefits of the forest”. Use our tablet to go on an interactive walk in the forest with your family or friends and discover the hidden benefits of the forest. Like a collaborative game, join forces to revitalise our virtual character: Nagomi. As part of a partnership with Biotopia Japan, you’ll be able to project yourself into the Japanese forest through a virtual portal!
The team of mediators completes this offer by proposing guided walks and original activities. Depending on the season, you can enjoy nature film screenings, storytelling, children’s workshops, stingray egg hunts, mushroom outings or walks around the heronry.
The site is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. It has been awarded the Tourisme & Handicap mark and is involved in the “Welcome” network, which aims to improve the welcome given to foreign visitors.
