Sentier du Canal

Detailed itinerary

LE PERRIER
Jaune (n°14)

Description

Although not far from the ocean, Le Perrier is nestled in the heart of the Marais Breton Vendéen. Discover this area on a 5.8 km walk, along small market-garden roads, between fields and canals.

Less well known than its neighbour the Grand Bleu, the Marais Breton Vendéen (or Marô in the local dialect) is no less magical and well worth a visit! And what better way to discover it than on foot?

As its name suggests, the canal path takes you along the Canal de la Taillée, one of the many waterways that criss-cross the land. You’re sure to spot cows, sheep or horses, geese and swallows in the distance… The path also takes you along a charraud, a market gardening term for a dirt track separating two plots of arable land.

You’ll get a glimpse of the marsh, its canals, its étiers, its charrauds and its farmland. It’s a walk whose palette of colours changes with the seasons. For the more curious among you, it’s in the early morning or at dusk that the marshes reveal their most beautiful hues…
