LES DIMANCHES AU MUSÉE MUNICIPAL
Espace Malraux 17 rue du président de Gaulle 85000 LA ROCHE-SUR-YON
Event description
Guided tour of the municipal museum for the general public.
Free admission.
1 hour.
Booking recommended (visit limited to 20 people).
The theme of ruins is very present in the Museum’s collections. From the 18th century onwards, ruins became a pictorial theme in their own right. “Le Forum” by Félix Lionnet and “Paestum” by Gérôme, two major paintings in the museum’s collection, reflect artists’ interest in the birth of modern archaeology in Italy. The ruin is a witness to a vanished state that it resuscitates, and has the power to awaken memories, plunge the viewer into a reverie or question his or her relationship with things, time and the human condition. Through a selection of works, philosopher Yvon Quiniou invites viewers to meditate on the art of the ruin through time.
The exhibition features 15 works, mainly drawings, washes and photographs, including a recent acquisition by the Poirier family, closely associated with their travels and the memories of the archaeological sites they visited, and photographs of the mythical site of Meroe by Juliette Agnel (“Taharqa et la nuit” series).
Sundays 14 January, 18 February and 24 March.
