GAEC LA BARGE – Farm
About us
The team at GAEC La Barge (Fred and Ludivine, partners, and Rui and François, employees) work with 80 cattle and 10 horses on 170 hectares of natural marsh meadows. Convinced that the well-being of farmers is linked to that of their animals, and that this can only be expressed in an unspoilt environment, the team tries to establish a bond of trust with the cows from birth, so that working with them is stress-free. To ensure this quality relationship with their animals, they have chosen to have no more than 50 calvings a year. In order to meet these objectives while ensuring the farm's economic equilibrium, GAEC La Barge has chosen to rear market garden cows under the Nature et Progrès label and to sell all its production (meat from grazers and cows) via the Filière Biodiversité Maraîchine (market garden biodiversity network). Meat is sold to order directly at the farm from 5pm to 6.30pm, one Friday a month (veal from July to January and cow from March to June). For full details, visit the farm's website. The farm is open to the public to showcase the animals and their practices, as well as all the networks and initiatives in which the team is involved. Their primary motivation is to show that food production is compatible with the region's wild biodiversity. Every year, the GAEC La Barge takes part in World Wetlands Day with an outing to the farm, and also offers a transhumance open to the public on the first weekend in December.
