About us
Lucie Maritaud is a cow breeder, settled in her farm in the middle of pastures in the Breton Vendée marshes, in Notre Dame de Monts.
Nature lover, she chose to feed her cows herd only with grass, by combining economic activity and biodiversity protection. Besides Maraichine cows (from the marshes), the Avocette Rieuse farm takes in threatened species on her fields.
It’s truly to give sense to her life and be in tune with her values that Lucie quit a professional environment which though guaranteed a real stability. Therefore, this is an assumed and truly thoughtful approach Lucie took by retraining, but before all, a real life changing. Following the creation of the GAEC (Agricultural Group Operating in Common) with her partner, she is now with family and near her animals, more involved than ever for the nature she loves and respects so much.
Militant at heart, her farm is a lot invested in the voluntary local life, which explains the agricultural dynamic, so special of the Breton Vendée marshes.
“The breading, a poetic way to inhabit the world, a reverence to life, to its complexity, to its genius”. This sentence from Pierre-Étienne Rault illustrates the farm’s philosophy: taking care of the living as best as possible, while remaining humbly in place. That’s how Lucie is doing her job she invites you to discover during visits she regularly offers (information or reservation in tourist offices of Pays de Saint Jean de Monts).
Moments of discovery and sharing around Lucie, her job and her commitments and her many implications.
