Salt marsh Les Valencières

Interested in how salt is harvested? Would you like to know how seawater becomes the salt workers ‘white gold’ thanks to the sun and the wind?
Thierry Odéon is passionate about his profession of Saunier (salt worker), the skills of which he learned from his predecessor.
This ‘White gold’ is harvested using traditional local methods: Thierry collects his salt from one of 30 crystallization beds where the salt settles.
Come and visit this unique, calm site, situated in the heart of the ‘Marais Breton Vendéen’, where salt is still harvested traditionally following age old methods which date back 1500  years!
If it rains you can visit the exhibition of plans and photos in the shelter of the salt cellar. Visits from April to September. Information and booking through the tourist office.
Thierry sells his production on site, or in local shops:
Kitchen salt, ‘fleur de sel’, flavored salts and saltwort.

In July and August also at the Notre Dame de Monts farmers market.
