PROJECTION CINÉMA : MARKER TOUT COURT
Cinéma Le Concorde 8 Rue Gouvion 85000 LA ROCHE-SUR-YON
Event description
Programme of 4 short films directed by Chris Marker.
La Jetée (1962)
France – 1964 – 0H33 – VO
The story begins in Paris, after the “Third World War” and the nuclear destruction of the entire surface of the Earth. The hero is the guinea pig of scientists who are trying to re-establish a time corridor to enable people from the future to transport food, medicine and energy sources: “To call the past and the future to the aid of the present”. He was chosen because of his excellent visual memory: he retains a very strong and present image of an event he experienced as a child, during a walk with his mother on the Orly airport pier.
Junkopia
France – 1981 – 0H06 – VO
Chris Marker films the beach at Emeryville, near San Francisco, where artists, unbeknownst to everyone, leave a few signs made from what the sea abandons.
Sunday in Beijing
France – 1956 – 0H19 – VO
“Nothing is more beautiful than Paris, if not the memory of Paris. And nothing is more beautiful than Peking, if not the memory of Peking. And I, in Paris, remember Beijing and count my treasures…” Chris Marker. Chris Marker ; Here they are, images, sounds and impressions. A Sunday in Beijing. China accessible at last. Lifting a corner of the veil without completely dispelling its mystery. The Beijing of childhood memories, the Beijing of the past, of history. The Beijing of today, on a Sunday in the 1950s. The Beijing and China of tomorrow, waking up, opening up to the world, to history, to us. The Beijing of youth and children… Corrected by words, sound, music and editing, each image, even the most haphazard and unconvincing, serves the story and the purpose of this brilliant author, who has a sense of the short cut, a taste for the formula, a deft touch with commentary and editing, who gives us something to see and think about, without appearing to do so, by entrusting us with personal emotions.
Long live the whale
France – 1974 – 0H17 – VO
At first, the whale was an essential means of survival for part of humanity. Then came industrialisation, and with it big business. Whaling became a means of making a profit. The slaughter could begin.
