IAM :
Formed in 1989 and hailing from Marseille, IAM is the iconic rap group made up of Akhenaton, Shurik’n, Kheops, Imhotep and Kephren. Known for their unique musical style, their lyrics are often politically engaged, dealing with issues such as social injustice, racism and urban violence.
Their album ‘L’École du Micro d’Argent’ is still considered one of the best French rap albums of all time, and has won numerous awards including the prestigious Victoire de la Musique.
EESAH YASUKE :
She’s the voice that intrudes, that flows, that doesn’t cheat. Raging or healing. A caress and a clenched fist. When she was younger, Eesah Yasuke was immersed in African music, Congolese rumba, rock, soul, pop and, of course, rap. She doesn’t shy away from anything. She refuses to be pigeon-holed. She’s realised that an artist can explore absolutely anything, crossing styles to create her own universe, far removed from fickle, ephemeral trends.
She’s out of fashion, out of step. It’s an incredible opportunity. She doesn’t close herself off. She’s a self-confessed adventurer, a Franco-Ivorian with Cape Verdean and Portuguese roots. A beatmaker spotted her and contacted her, Chief Waxy. In 2021, her very first EP, “Cadavre Exquis”, was in the can. She found a tour manager and started performing live. 80 concerts later, she won the Buzz Booster, Joséphine and Rappeuses en Liberté awards. Her new EP, released in May 2023, is called “Prophétie”. Prophecy because it’s where it belongs. Destiny, exactly. Her destiny. There is no chance.
