GALLOWSTREET:
Hailing from Amsterdam, and more specifically Galgenstraat (hence the Anglo-Saxon translation of Gallowstreet), the band has identified itself with this mecca of nightlife and musical freedom. Comprising an octet with six percussive horns and two explosive percussionists, the brass band is unrivalled in adding a club atmosphere to its New Orleans ‘second line’ brass band profile, filling the typical big-band swing with incendiary hip-hop grooves, house and afro-beat, drawing inspiration from the sets of the best DJs to develop a unique approach to live music, whether it’s covers of famous tunes or their own compositions, some of which are already considered classics by amateur brass bands the world over. It has to be said that everywhere they have played, at the biggest festivals where they have systematically set the stage on fire, their incredible energy and the incandescence of their instrumental repertoire are bound to be contagious and trigger an irrepressible desire to dance. With “A trip worth making”, Gallowstreet look back on their itinerary and revisit the important moments they have experienced along the way, whether they be individual memories for the musicians or shared by the group.
